For the kids...
Working with horses gives homeschool students (or any child) the opportunity to learn through hands-on equine experiences what its like to work with these incredible animals.
For the horses...
Horses considered too old, lame or unwanted come to life when given the chance to connect with people, especially kids. Having the attention and interaction helps them stay healthy and happy. Our fee helps cover the cost for their care and well-being.
HORSES PROVIDE KIDS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS
FUN AND LEARNING
Learn basic horse skills such as safe handling, leading, grooming, anatomy, and horse care. Kids will also participate in the daily farm work that goes along with having horses.
THIS IS NOT A HORSEBACK RIDING CLASS
This is an opportunity for fun physical ground activities with the horses. You’ll also learn fun horse facts like... You can tell how old a horse is by their teeth!
CONFIDENCE AND SELF-CONTROL
Clear, calm and respectful interactions with horses teach confidence and boundary setting, allowing children to feel valuable and respected.
90 minute flexible outdoor sessions
TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION
When working with a horse, it is important to communicate clearly and effectively. Horses respond to our body language, so it is important to be aware of how we move and position ourselves in relation to the horse. Learning to work as a team with one’s horse shows children how to cooperate with others and communicate effectively.
EMPATHY AND RESPECT FOR OTHER LIVINGS BEINGS
Horses are large animals, and to interact with them positively, you must be attentive to their reactions and emotions. Horses respond to our body language, tone of voice, and intentions, and children who learn to understand and respect this can also become better at understanding other people's emotions and reactions.
All Children ages 6 - 13 are welcome!
We use quiet, retired and rescued horses and ponies for the kids to learn with.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
RESPONSIBILITY AND PERSEVERANCE
Caring for a horse requires time and dedication. Taking responsibility for another living creature and finishing tasks even when they are difficult teaches responsibility.
PHYSICAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Being with horses is a great way to get fresh air and exercise. Playing games with them in the arena, cleaning stalls, grooming, even just hiking out to the pasture to catch a horse are all great ways to get your body moving.
PARENTS
Children are supervised at all times by an experienced equine handler.
What a great way to log Physical Education hours!
Parents welcome!
